The Koutoubia And The Coachman
The Koutoubia mosque is Morocco’s oldest standing mosque. It has graced the Marrakech skyline since the 12th century, enduring countless earthquakes and becoming a symbol of resilience.
When I visited Marrakech, I was captivated by the sight of the horse-drawn carriages clattering softly through the city’s streets. Introduced in the early 20th century during the French Protectorate, these carriages now carry with them a quiet sense of nostalgia. They are reminders of a different era when time moved at a gentler pace.
In my painting, I wanted to bring together these two worlds: the silent and imposing mosque with its ancient wisdom, and the elegant carriage that evokes the nostalgia of a turning century. Together, they form a dialogue between permanence and change, history and memory : an image of Morocco that is at once timeless, rich and alive.
This fine art print comes in 2 different sizes with 1 inch white border on the top and bottom sides and 0,5inch white border on the left and right side.
It is printed on 200gsm paper, using 12-colour fine art printing technology to deliver the most vivid, accurate colours.
The original painting is 18×24” oil on cotton canvas and is not for sale.
